Port of Tacoma Road Update - Dec. 2

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:


Construction Work is Weather Dependent

Winter weather is impacting the construction schedule, and the reconstruction project is now expected to be completed in January 2016. All work noted below is weather dependent.


All five lanes of Port of Tacoma Road between Marshall Avenue and Ross Way are expected to open early next week. Due to the colder temperatures, temporary striping will be used.


Marshall Avenue Intersection Expected to Open December 7

Road construction at the intersection of Marshall Avenue and Port of Tacoma Road is expected to be completed this week. Limited access and partial closures at the intersection will continue this week, and the intersection should open completely Monday, December 7.


Potential Closure at Washington United Terminals this Weekend

If the weather cooperates, the contractor plans to close all five lanes of Port of Tacoma Road in front of Washington United Terminals from 4 PM Friday, December 4, to 6 AM Monday, December 7.


Traffic will be detoured around the construction on Lincoln Avenue, Thorne Road and Maxwell Way.


The gate to the WUT truck staging area is expected to close at 3:30 PM Trucks will be allowed to access WUT from the bobtail lane until the terminal closes at 4:30 PM, which may result in congestion on Port of Tacoma Road late Friday afternoon. Learn more.


Ross Way to East 11th Street Construction Begins Next Week

Construction is expected to begin December 7 on the final stretch of Port of Tacoma Road between Ross Way and East 11th Street. The work is weather dependent and expected to be completed by the end of December. 


Grinding and paving work will begin on the east lanes of this section of the road. The Ross Way intersection is expected to close for several weeks beginning December 7 to accommodate construction on this section of the road.


Construction of the East 11th Street intersection is expected to begin in early January.
