Port of Tacoma Update - July 22 - August 3

Port of Tacoma Update - July 22 - August 3

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Construction between Marshall and Lincoln avenues continues

Port of Tacoma Road continues to be reduced to one lane of traffic each direction between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Work on this section is expected to be completed in late August.

The two lanes of traffic are expected to move from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes July 23 to allow the contractor to begin removing pavement in the southbound lanes. Paving on the two southbound lanes will take place July 31 through August 2. Access to local businesses will be provided.

Driveway work between Lincoln Avenue and East 11th Street

The contractor continues to replace driveways on the west side of the road between Ross Way and East 11th Street. The work is expected to be completed by early August.

Road remains closed between Lincoln Avenue and WUT gate

All lanes of Port of Tacoma Road remain closed between Lincoln Avenue and the WUT gate. This full road closure is expected to last through early August.

Traffic is detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue to Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. Local access is provided between Maxwell Way and the WUT gate, and access to WUT is not impacted.

Water line installation requires water shut-off July 25

Installation of a 12-inch water line between East 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue continues. The water line is located in the eastern-most lane and is being constructed in segments.

Tacoma Water will be replacing a valve on the main water line Saturday, July 25. Water will be turned off for businesses located along East 11th Street and some on Port of Tacoma Road near East 11th Street. Tacoma Water has notified most customers of the outage and everyone impacted should receive a notice from Tacoma Water by Thursday.
