Port of Tacoma Update - Phase 2 - April 20

Phase 2 of Port of Tacoma Road Reconstruction to begin May 2

The City of Tacoma will begin May 2 reconstructing Port of Tacoma Road from Marshall Avenue to the State Route 509 bridge with concrete to meet heavy-haul standards.

The project will complete the final 1,600 feet of Port of Tacoma Road north of State Route 509. This second phase of road reconstruction is the result of additional grant funding received by the City, as well as contributions from the City and Port.

Construction is expected to begin May 2 and last up to eight weeks. The work is weather dependent.

Truck staging during construction
Throughout construction, truck staging is expected to remain the same. Suggested truck routes to our terminals include:

Husky Terminal
Use Portland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue OR Milwaukee Way to access the East 11th Street Staging Area
Avoid Port of Tacoma Road

Olympic Container Terminal
Continue to use Port of Tacoma Road

Washington United Terminals
Use Portland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue OR Port of Tacoma Road to access the WUT Staging Area

Terminal 7 breakbulk
Use Port of Tacoma Road

Construction traffic impacts
The work will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction throughout construction and be completed in three phases: (1) the two east lanes, (2) two west lanes and (3) the center lane.

Expected traffic impacts and detour routes will be posted on this website as well as the Port of Tacoma website.
