Pipeline Trail - Phase 3

Pipeline Trail Background

Pipeline Trail is a three-phased project. Phase 1 was constructed in 2012 and built a one half mile trail through Tacoma's Eastside community in Salishan. Phase 2 construction was completed in April 2019. This phase constructed a shared use path between East 40th Street and East 48th Street and an on-street trail from East 40th Street to the D Street Bridge.

The City of Tacoma was awarded a grant for Pipeline Trail Phase 3 from the Pierce County Regional Council to construct a shared use path segment between East 56th Street and East 72nd Street. Phase 3 is started construction June 2019, and will be the final phase of the Pipeline Trail within the City of Tacoma limits.

Pipeline Trail Phase 3 Project Description

This project will construct a 1.4 mile trail segment that includes a 12-foot wide asphalt surface, two-foot gravel shoulders on each side, new access control gates at existing Public Utility Department service entries, LED lighting, three (3) pedestrian activated signals (located at East 64th and Pipeline Road, East 60th and Pipeline Road and East 56th and Pipeline Road), water quality facilities, way-finding signage, benches, and a permanent counting device. The project will remove and replace all curb ramps at East 72nd and Waller Road, East 64th and Pipeline Road, East 60th and Pipeline Road and East 56th and Pipeline Road with ADA compliant ramps.
