“Make Your Mark” for Puget Sound Aug. 23
“Make your Mark” in the West End on Saturday, Aug. 23, by joining teams of volunteers in attaching “No Dumping, Drains to Puget Sound” markers next to hundreds of storm drains in the Skyline Elementary School neighborhood. The fun happens from 9 AM to Noon, with free lunch to follow.
“Not everyone knows that the water that flows down storm drains empties directly into rivers, lakes and Puget Sound where people swim, fish and boat,” says Jacqueline Fuller,
EnviroChallenger educator for the City of Tacoma. “Storm drain marking helps everyone keep Tacoma’s waterways clean by reminding them not to leave oil, paint, pesticides, pet waste or litter in driveways or on streets where it can easily be washed by hoses or rainfall into the nearest storm drain. Everyone needs a reminder that nothing but rain goes down the drain.”
Attendees may pre-register for the event with Jeanine Riss, (253) 383-2429 or
jriss@healthybay.org and meet at Skyline Elementary School, 2301 North Mildred St.
This event is co-sponsored by
Citizens for a Healthy Bay, the City of Tacoma and the
Pierce Conservation District.
