City Manager Appoints Toryono Green Tacoma Fire Chief
City Manager Elizabeth Pauli announced the appointment of Deputy Fire Chief Tory Green to the position of Tacoma Fire Chief who was confirmed by the Tacoma City Council on April 16, 2019. Green will assume command of his new role effective immediately.
“Fire services remains a top priority for the City of Tacoma,” said City Manager Pauli. “I am confident that Chief Green has the knowledge, courage and skills to lead the department to its highest potential.”
Over the course of his 26-year career with the Tacoma Fire Department, Chief Green worked successfully under the leadership of four fire chiefs, including his predecessor Chief Jim Duggan. Chief Green previously served as the deputy chief of administration for the department for the last seven years, and previously served as its assistant chief of emergency medical services and training, and medical services officer. Chief Green is a Tacoma native who began his career with the department as a firefighter and paramedic.
As the Tacoma Fire Department’s chief administrator, Chief Green will plan, direct, manage and oversee daily operations and all aspects of emergency services including implementing strategic plans and procedures, establishing efficient service delivery methods and response time mechanisms, and tracking the department’s budget.
“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity, and I look forward to leading the men and women of the Tacoma Fire Department as we adapt and evolve in response to our community’s changing needs.” said Chief Green.
Chief Green holds a bachelor of business administration in management from American Intercontinental University. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Washington State Fire Chiefs, National Fire Protection Association, American Leadership Forum of Tacoma-Pierce County and serves, or has served, on the Board of Directors for the Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation, YWCA Pierce County and the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter.
