Survey Results Provide Updated Look at Community’s Perceptions of Services
Results from the City of Tacoma’s community survey conducted November 4, 2019 – November 22, 2019 are now available.
Overall, community members had a positive impression of quality of life in Tacoma, with 71 percent rating it "excellent” (19 percent) or "good” (52 percent). Moreover, 79 percent indicated that they were either “somewhat satisfied” (58 percent) or very satisfied (21 percent) with City services.
With regard to public safety and enforcement, community members were most satisfied with fire response and suppression (99 percent) and emergency medical services (98 percent). Key priority areas for improvement, according to statistical analysis, are improvements to police investigations and code enforcement.
For services associated with infrastructure, parks, and public works, the highest levels of community member satisfaction related to sewer service (95 percent), local parks and recreation centers (88 percent), and garbage, recycling, yard, and food waste collection (88 percent). In fact, more than 76 percent of community members reported being satisfied with 9 out of the 12 services in this category of services. Key priority areas for improvement, according to statistical analysis, include street condition, traffic signal performance and timing, and street lighting.
With regard to other City services such as libraries, arts and culture, customer service, and economic development services, community members were most satisfied with public libraries (91 percent) and overall customer service at the City (87 percent). Key priority areas for improvement, according to statistical analysis, included permitting services, and economic and business development services.
A total of 750 randomly sample households – 150 from each Councilmanic District – across Tacoma were surveyed last month. Results from the survey, administered by MDB Insight, will aid the City’s ongoing planning and improvement processes.
