Jack Kelanic Appointed Information Technology Director
After having served on an interim basis for the past nine months, Jack Kelanic has been named by City Manager T.C. Broadnax as the City of Tacoma’s newest Information Technology director. Kelanic will step into his new role effective March 10, 2014.
"Jack is well qualified to lead the Information Technology Department during this transformative time period in our organization that calls for the bold and innovative use of technology,” said Broadnax. “I appreciate his commitment to public service, and I am pleased that he has accepted this appointment.”
“It is a great privilege for me to serve as director, as the Information Technology Department works to strategically leverage the latest advances in technology in support of the City of Tacoma’s overall mission,” said Kelanic.
As interim director since June 2013, Kelanic led the Information Technology Department as it delivered on major technology related projects including: the City’s website; Tacoma Public Utilities’ customer payment portal; the City’s citizen request management system; the City’s 311 initiative; and the City’s online benefits enrollment system for its employees.
Before becoming interim director, Kelanic served as the Information Technology Department’s assistant director. Prior to joining the City, he was the chief information systems director for the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2008 - 2011. He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Vanderbilt University.
As the City’s Information Technology Department director, Kelanic is responsible for providing a reliable infrastructure for the City’s internal technology related operations and business systems for the management and distribution of information. He is also responsible for supporting technology related initiatives that serve the City’s residents and customers.
