Historic Preservation Office Kicks Off Lecture Series with the 70s Turn 50
The City of Tacoma’s Historic Preservation Office, in collaboration with Historic Tacoma and Tacoma Historical Society, is kicking off the 2021 Broadening Horizons Heritage Café Series with a look back at 70s architecture and design trends.
The August 19 free event is open to everyone and begins at 6 p.m. on Facebook Live or join on ZOOM. Washington State Architectural Historian Michael Houser will highlight 1970s architecture as it celebrates its 50th birthday and becomes eligible for nomination to historic registers.

“We are excited to work with our local partners to create a more inclusive discussion of heritage and historic preservation,” said Assistant Historic Preservation Officer Lauren Hoogkamer.
The series held on the third Thursday of the month, will highlight broad aspects of heritage and historic preservation, such as architectural styles, diversity, immigration patterns, and local LGBQT history.
