South Sound Sustainability Expo Showcases Green Living Practices on March 2
The 12th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo is taking place on Saturday, March 2, from 10 AM to 3 PM, at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center (1500 Commerce St.).
This free event connects community members with over 100 local businesses and organizations dedicated to a healthy and environmentally sustainable South Sound. Participants can explore a variety of sustainable living topics, participate in activities, and browse through a mini farmers market.
The event will also feature workshops on zero waste communities, sustainability-based mindfulness, and green infrastructure. Families will enjoy arts and crafts in the Kids’ Corner, an interactive scavenger hunt, and vendors with information and activities for all ages. All participants are encouraged to bring a T-shirt, shopping bag, or another fabric item to screen print.
New this year, the event will feature a Fix-It Fair hosted by the Tacoma Tool Library and Zero Waste Washington. Participants can bring their jewelry, clothing, appliances, electronics, and more items in need of repair to get them fixed for free.
Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards will kick off this year’s event with a bike ride with Downtown On the Go and VeloFemmes. The bike ride will start at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market St.) at 9:45 AM and end at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center at 10 AM. The ride will include information about downtown bike infrastructure, what’s coming for bicycling, and will give an opportunity to speak with Tacoma’s most bike-friendly Mayor. Helmets are required, and snacks will be provided at the end of the ride.
The South Sound Sustainability Expo is presented by the City of Tacoma’s Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability, with support from Tacoma Public Utilities, Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union, Pierce Transit, Metro Parks Tacoma, Pierce County, Lime and the Port of Tacoma.
