City of Tacoma Inclement Weather Service Adjustments

Due to inclement weather, the City of Tacoma is operating on a two-hour delay today for all non-essential employees, with administrative offices opening at 10 AM.

City employees are advised to check the City's official social media channels, or the City's website, for the latest information and be in contact with their respective supervisors should they have any questions regarding work expectations.

The City’s Street Operations Division continues to have full crews on snow routes throughout Tacoma, and will maintain snow operations throughout the storm events. During these events, City crews plow and de-ice streets on a priority level, beginning with primary arterial streets, followed by secondary and auxiliary routes. The time required to clear these routes depends on storm intensity and severity. City crews do not plow or de-ice residential streets.

The Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center is open today as normally scheduled, from 8 AM - 6 PM, however garbage, recycling and yard/food waste pick-ups for residential customers will not occur today. Residential customers are advised to leave their containers out, however, for pick-up as soon as it has been determined to be safe for crews to safely do so. Commercial customers considered to be “critical” such as hospitals, medical clinics, and some food service sites will be serviced as usual.

Police and fire personnel, along with animal control personnel, will be on duty today, as normally scheduled.

Following is a list of other closures and service adjustments:

  • All Tacoma Public Library branches are closed today, as per their normal schedule.
  • Senior Centers are closed today, due to inclement weather.
  • The Tacoma Municipal Court will open as normally scheduled today, however employees are allowed a two-hour late start, following the City’s modified schedule.
  • There will be no parking enforcement by City staff today, due to inclement weather.
